All strains of Kratom, begin life as a broad, glossy leaf of the mitragyna speciosa tree. The tree … is a popular choice, among farmers in Southeast Asia, as it is an evergreen tree, and it produces a large volume of leaves throughout the year. What many people are unaware of is that the color of the leaves changes naturally over time. At any point in their life cycle, the leaves could be red, white, yellow, brown, or green. What defines the color of the ‘Kratom’s strain is largely dependent on when the leaves were picked or harvested. Green Kratom is generally created by selecting the leaves when they are only semi-matured, green-veined leaves. Once the leaves have been picked, the farmers place them on specially designed racks and then dry them in the sun. Known within the industry as curing, the farmers believe that this alters the levels of alkaloids which naturally occur in the plant’s leaves. The curing process is also responsible for developing the legendary aroma of the green vein strain. Different farmers are always looking to differentiate their product, and so some will try fermentation, or shade-drying to deliver slightly different results. Once the leaves are totally dry, farmers will then grind the leaves, which turns them into a fine grain powder, which is how the majority of Kratom is sold in the United States. When purchasing any Kratom, is it important to follow three basic rules. • Ensure that any Kratom you buy is all-natural and organic • Ensure that it does not contain any fillers, chemicals or addictive ingredients • Ensure that it is freshly sourced.
